The Journey Of Motherhood

Image
“ Omo ti o ba da to baba re ni, eyi to oda to iya re ni ” which translates to “The child that is good is for the father, the child that is not good is for the mother” in English language, is a saying that would never sit well in my ears. In better words, it is a saying that is so condescending to one’s hearing. This gender role and war has been up for a long time and the earlier we get to see and understand that the society can be no better without JOINT EFFORT , the better for us all. Fortunately, I grew up in a home where roles were not assigned to the husband or the wife, and you know what this did to me? It mounded me to who I am right now and the woman/mother I will be. I watched my dad prepare my sisters and I for school and I watched my mum settle some bills in the home. My parents were so heavy on instilling in us the habit of giving a helping hand whenever and wherever you can. They did not just preach this to us but also practiced it between one another so having to ...

WHEN LIFE GOES THE OTHER WAY ROUND.

Image
#rantchallenge Looking at things this way: The citizens of Nigeria would not be this mad if things went the other way round; ● If fuel didn’t skyrocket from #450 to #900. ● If the highest currency in the country could still feed a family for a day or two. ● If common sachet water did not have to cost #50 for each. ● If the reason for removing fuel subsidy was maintained (to invest more in the educational and health sector) but mind you, school fees and hospital bills keep on leaving citizens in a state of dilemma.  ● If the price of accommodation is not pushing people to rather stay out in the slums because the houses are not even worth the price anymore!!! ● If a bare minimum way of living (traveling by air, buying yourself a crate of eggs, subscribing a monthly plan e.t.c.) is considered luxury. ● If the cost of living in the country is not threatening to kill the living. ● If a #10,000 monthly allowance could still sustain a student. ● If education, and not connection rem...

One day = Day One

Image
And one day, you would have something to say about your day one, only if you decide to JUST START. You don’t have to be perfect, aesthetically pleasing or all that. Looking at these things especially when you don’t have them will only make them setbacks for you to start your journey of life. You could be on a journey to anything at all. It could be your academics, a business, a skill, a long term plan; but then what matters at the end of it all is your progress to success; not the pace or speed at which you are moving but your progress itself. Letting the thought of “I’m too slow” or “this is too slow for my liking”overwhelm you or consume your mind is one of the factors that hinder growth. After the fear of failure comes the thoughts of “what if’s”. What we forget to consume our minds with rather us “The Power of Now”: setting aside any and everything that stands as a setback; those fears, those negative thoughts e.t.c and taking that bold step we are afraid of taking because ...

Identity Over Feminism

Image
I would always remember heated arguments I had with my teachers and male classmates back then in high school. These arguments never surpassed gender equality and back then, my teachers would always say to me: “How do you intend getting married with this mindset?”… the mindset was indeed extreme. I also went as far as writing an article on feminism just to impress my favorite teacher and although he was really impressed (I suppose), I couldn’t stand even one of his questions when he threw them at me. It was after graduating from high school and started familiarizing with the society that I got to understand certain things and adjust my mindset of equity with a man. I accepted that: ● A woman would NEVER be in equal stand with a man. POV: that doesn’t make her less a human or give any man whosoever trample on a woman. ● A man comes first before a woman in the sense that in whatever happens, a woman is MEANT TO be subject to a man in any and every ramifications of life. ● No matter h...

The Burden Of A Purposeful Life

Image
Whatever kind of “nice” person you meet who’s going to tell you not to feel like a burden, you should always be reminded that you still are a burden, a burden to yourself. No matter how rich or poor, young or old that you are, you are always more of a burden of a burden to yourself; especially if you want a purposeful life. Every human has a burden that bothers him and these burdens could come in the form of death, loss, illness, worry, trauma, finances, marital tension e.t.c. While a billionaire could be burdened with illnesses plus financial downfall, a student could be burdened with academic comeback plus financial tension. How possibly can these burdens be beaten? ● Understanding Purpose: to embrace a purposeful life, one should figure out the consent of purpose; reason being that purpose is the driving force that directs a person. Purpose is basically the combination of one’s talents, passions and impact we intend to make in the immediate world around us. And you know the intere...
