The Shift

 

Do you remember a post I made sometime ago about financial and biological clock? I stayed clearly in that piece how and why each gender acts the way they do; while the males are more focused on their financial clock, the females on the other hand, are more focused on their biological clock. But come to think of it, it appears now, that women are no longer really interested on whether or not they’re on time on their biological clock. Everyone is now more focused on their financial clock and we all want to be “there”

But who’s to be blamed for this change? 

Asides the fact that the world is now wired in a certain way, the following are reasons or factors rather, that has prompted women’s motif and focus to change from the biological to financial clock: 

l  Gender stereotypes: Right from time, the female gender has always been seen as that which is restricted and “obliged” to care, groom, the kitchen and many other chores which should not be gender based but things anyone could do and even be achieved when there’s cooperation and collaboration between both genders. 

Even till this day, we have cultures still in support of female child marriage and this culture does not, in almost all cases, apply to the male child. We also have families that restrict their female children to primary school education. 

These and many more have made the female gender say “NO” to working towards their biological clock. 

l  Body image and self esteem: the society has built “beauty standards” for women and this has caused an increase in low self esteem in most women and this has prompted some of these women to make decisions not beneficial to them e.g changing their bodies to satisfy the male gender, being stuck in a fruitless relationship because they cannot stand the backlash that comes from other males e.t.c. Most times, it’s always too late to change some decisions made already and they have to learn to live with it. 

These societal standards have made other females become ruthless and make the decision of living their lives for themselves and not for the male gender. 

l  Financial independence: a lot of independent women today saw and witnessed how tough it was for their mothers to live without their fathers’ support and even when the support did come, it was always accompanied with embarrassment at its peak. 

Another scenario could be women’s inability to leave marriages they are fed up of. Most times, this is always due to complete financial dependence on their husbands. 

These and many other effects of financial dependence on the male gender has prompted women to begin to fight for their own financial independence. 

Now, what is that one thing that still restricts and demeans women no matter their effort? Tying women’s success to the male gender!! 

I see no reason why you see a woman living her dream life and first thing that comes to your head is she’s been “sponsored” by a man and in my opinion, I feel no one (men inclusive) should be “hustle-shamed”. Whatever anyone engages in in the name of hustle, so long as it does not go against the law, should be respected and it is in no one’s place to say whether or not it is a beneficial one to the hustler.
