STILL BECOMING

To the one person that made my 19th year a memorable one, David Adedolapo Obadiah, I love you so much. If I took nothing out of my 19th year, at least I know not to “settle” anymore, and self discovery is not an action or a process. It is a constant cycle/struggle/growth that takes place at certain intervals in life; and this brings me to dropping this bombshell¡ Until January 17th 2027, my blog would be shut down. I wrote for free for over 3 years and now, I have thought to rebrand ’Style De Vie blog’, maybe with a different name, maybe with a different logo, but definitely an entirely different website!😊 But in the meantime, while cooking, I will be closing contracts and landing clients in the writing field. I am still a writer, a full time freelance content writer who is also into social media management (still cooking up more skills for my readers😽).  So, please, if you are looking for any type of writer, or a social media manager, I’m very much available and would lov...

BIOLOGICAL AND FINANCIAL CLOCK

Image
You would agree with me that most times, men and women do not think alike. While men think and handle situations most times thinking with their brains, women on the other hand often handle situations using their motions. Really, think about whatever situation it could be… A woman would think with her heart and mind you, you really cannot blame them because these two genders have a clock, each ticking against the other, or maybe for the other. This different clocks is what makes them see life from two very different perspectives.  While a woman is on a biological clock, a man is on a financial clock.  The biological clock is a timer set for every woman. This timer counts down each day, reminding her that the older she gets, the more her body depreciates and this explains why most times, women appear to be the victim in relationships. They honestly don’t want to run out of time so they try as much as possible (and even impossible) to set things right with the people around them....

My mother's core

Image
“I won’t beat you, just tell me the truth”- coming from the same person who taught me that the truth shall set me free!!!😭 “Love wasn’t girls landing in the hospital after a breakup, love was me loosing my mind in the hospital after loosing my husband”- coming from a millennial mother wanting to hop on a Gen Z TikTok trend😇❤️ “Oya don’t worry, I will cook my food myself”- coming from this woman who came to intrude in the kitchen after telling me to prepare dinner 🤦‍♀️ “Very good!”… and she proceeds to adjust her wrapper and looks away- coming from the mother who’s meant to share in my pain after I fall 🥲  “Every time, phone, phone, phone, that’s why you’re always sick”- coming from someone who’s meant to rush me down to the hospital rather than complaining 😑  “Must you go and see your friend? Can’t your friend come and see you?”- coming from a millennial mum who wants no visitor in her house😒 “You think you’re doing me? You’re doing yourself”- the usual anthem whenever t...

LOVE- AN EMOTION OR AN ACTION

Image
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son… You will agree with me that love is sacrifice and it is this sacrifice which makes up love is what often makes us mistake love as an action instead of an emotion that it is.  In this piece, you’re free to picture whatever kind of love it is that comes to your mind and tell me if it does not reasonable with what you will read below. I would be using God’s love and a mother’s love for my evaluation.  To understand this piece, I would want us to take note of these two points:  ●  Love itself is one thing, while the act(s) of love is another:  It is very different to “be loved” and to “be loved BECAUSE…”. It is why the only love that can be compared to God’s love is a mother’s love. A mother would never spare her last money to her child because her child has cute eyes; neither will God spare your life in accident because He wants to see if you will tell everyone about the love He has for you. You see, lo...

DELAYED GRATIFICATION.

Image
I will always tell youngsters like me to not be faster than their shadows- I mean, you can but you should not [I don’t know if we understand what I mean]. Between ages 13-18/19, your prior aim should be your personal growth, talents, skills, studies e.t.c. but in whatever you end up focusing on, bothering yourself with the thoughts of how to be in vogue, or how to please a person in the name of a relationship is something that should not be because you are more likely to be distracted from your main focus. For instance, me deliberating on saving up my allowance to get me a laptop or getting me a pair of loafers… My only gain in going for the latter [the pair of loafers] is feeling among and trendy, ignoring or forgetting rather, what it would cost me if I do not get me a laptop soonest. But you know what my gains would be if I went for the former [a laptop]? Not only will I be able to generate the money to get me a pair of loafers but I will also get to feel among one of those gi...

The Journey Of Motherhood

Image
“ Omo ti o ba da to baba re ni, eyi to oda to iya re ni ” which translates to “The child that is good is for the father, the child that is not good is for the mother” in English language, is a saying that would never sit well in my ears. In better words, it is a saying that is so condescending to one’s hearing. This gender role and war has been up for a long time and the earlier we get to see and understand that the society can be no better without JOINT EFFORT , the better for us all. Fortunately, I grew up in a home where roles were not assigned to the husband or the wife, and you know what this did to me? It mounded me to who I am right now and the woman/mother I will be. I watched my dad prepare my sisters and I for school and I watched my mum settle some bills in the home. My parents were so heavy on instilling in us the habit of giving a helping hand whenever and wherever you can. They did not just preach this to us but also practiced it between one another so having to ...

WHEN LIFE GOES THE OTHER WAY ROUND.

Image
#rantchallenge Looking at things this way: The citizens of Nigeria would not be this mad if things went the other way round; ● If fuel didn’t skyrocket from #450 to #900. ● If the highest currency in the country could still feed a family for a day or two. ● If common sachet water did not have to cost #50 for each. ● If the reason for removing fuel subsidy was maintained (to invest more in the educational and health sector) but mind you, school fees and hospital bills keep on leaving citizens in a state of dilemma.  ● If the price of accommodation is not pushing people to rather stay out in the slums because the houses are not even worth the price anymore!!! ● If a bare minimum way of living (traveling by air, buying yourself a crate of eggs, subscribing a monthly plan e.t.c.) is considered luxury. ● If the cost of living in the country is not threatening to kill the living. ● If a #10,000 monthly allowance could still sustain a student. ● If education, and not connection rem...

One day = Day One

Image
And one day, you would have something to say about your day one, only if you decide to JUST START. You don’t have to be perfect, aesthetically pleasing or all that. Looking at these things especially when you don’t have them will only make them setbacks for you to start your journey of life. You could be on a journey to anything at all. It could be your academics, a business, a skill, a long term plan; but then what matters at the end of it all is your progress to success; not the pace or speed at which you are moving but your progress itself. Letting the thought of “I’m too slow” or “this is too slow for my liking”overwhelm you or consume your mind is one of the factors that hinder growth. After the fear of failure comes the thoughts of “what if’s”. What we forget to consume our minds with rather us “The Power of Now”: setting aside any and everything that stands as a setback; those fears, those negative thoughts e.t.c and taking that bold step we are afraid of taking because ...
