STILL BECOMING

To the one person that made my 19th year a memorable one, David Adedolapo Obadiah, I love you so much. If I took nothing out of my 19th year, at least I know not to “settle” anymore, and self discovery is not an action or a process. It is a constant cycle/struggle/growth that takes place at certain intervals in life; and this brings me to dropping this bombshell¡ Until January 17th 2027, my blog would be shut down. I wrote for free for over 3 years and now, I have thought to rebrand ’Style De Vie blog’, maybe with a different name, maybe with a different logo, but definitely an entirely different website!😊 But in the meantime, while cooking, I will be closing contracts and landing clients in the writing field. I am still a writer, a full time freelance content writer who is also into social media management (still cooking up more skills for my readers😽).  So, please, if you are looking for any type of writer, or a social media manager, I’m very much available and would lov...

UNSEEN LABOR

These days, society pays more attention to gender war, failed marriages, body goals, gym goals e.t.c. and fail to look into one of the most delicate and important part of humanity. That one sa rice that has to be made for the sake of humanity. If we keep on blinding ourselves with the hatred of the other gender, comparing one “perfect” marriage to the other, someone else’s looks to the other, at what point do we start start paying attention to the fragility of two lives in the labor room? When do we begin to appreciate the love, submission and acceptance it takes to bring another life to the world? The bravery it takes to go in and come out of a labor room leaves me wondering how excellent a woman’s body actually works. I saw a post that explained the stages of how a woman’s body goes back t shape after childbirth and most times, the body does not even go back to its exact shape without a lot of work in the gym. Coincidentally, I also bumped into a post that educated women on how to ha...

My Lagos Experience (II)

Image
MY LAGOS EXPERIENCE (||) They said when life throws lemons at you, you make lemonades out of it … Life had thrown 2 huge bitter lemons at me and my lemonade almost went wrong (because my lemons were bitter). Asides the fact I was trying my possible best to keep my sanity, I also had exams to prepare for- these exams were also sanity-threatening but what could I do? I had to pass these exams to figure out what and where my problems were coming from. So, I decided to meet with some intellectual coursemates to aid and ease my preparations for exams. Now, the main deal … How did I get to my coursemates ’ hostel? Sometime ago, I published an article describing what my bus stop happens to be like (no buses to be boarded, crowds at the bus stop, scorching sun e.t.c.). I thought that must have been the worst that could happen to at my bus stop, not until I stood for over an hour, unable to board a bus. The sun was scorching, I was with a lot of bags, the people at the ...

Differences in Togetherness

Image
In the last 2 years of my life, I can say I have met a good number of different kinds and caliber of people. If only I had realized what I’m about to talk about on this piece, just maybe I would have had a wider network.  Of course when you decide to leave your comfort zone, you should be prepared for whatever it is that awaits you outside there and I think this is what most of us fail to admit. Asides you reading this, there are 7 billion other people in the world and these 7 billion people have their individual characters, attitudes e.t.c. and these are what makes us human (we cannot completely understand one another because there are no two alike persons).  You go about your daily activities and come across different people with different personalities; obviously you don’t get to like everyone you meet but how do you cope with people you don’t tend to like? You should follow these steps: - [ ] The first step has to be to TRY TO UNDERSTAND who and what this person coul...

19 years in 9 minutes

- [ ] Looking at the past 19 years that I’ve been here on earth, I can say nothing but thank you to God and my lovely parents for the life they gave me… I couldn’t ask for anything better - [ ] Looking at the past 18 years, I’m grateful for the sort of education I was given. It molded me to who I am and who I’m growing to become - [ ] And 17 years ago till now? It’s been a really nice one for me. Having to be a child everyone wanted the best from… school, family church e.t.c. I couldn’t ask for a better immediate environment - [ ] 16 years ago happens to be a year I have no memory about but I doubt it was a year lesser than the rest - [ ] 15 years ago was when my writing journey started, unknown to me. It was the first time I wrote anything meaningful with my pencil (It was my full name) - [ ] And if I’m to look back at 14 years ago, I was giving meaning to life already. Wanting to grow to become a barrister, “standard living” had to be my best song as at the time (the desire for a com...

Gender, Gender, Gender

Image
“Once they stood with broken hearts, ‘women of war, of sickness, of scars, women who stayed when the night turned cold,  who bore their cross with a quiet brave soul. They were the single mothers made by fate, not by haste, nor by self-fed hate.   But now… omo, how the world has evolved, where love is rushed, and marriages are crushed.  Where wombs are bargained to trap a man, and marriage vows are made with a lustful mind. You rush in and rush out and call it, ‘lonely pride’, yet hide the tears they cry inside.   So many now wear motherhood not as a badge of trials withstood , but as a shield from their own past, a tale rewritten much too fast.  They flee from patience, from growing pain, from mending hearts through storms and rain.   Some flirted with men who meant no vow, yet bore their child, and wonder how the world should cheer and lift their name,  while shirking guilt and shifting blame.  “Independent, strong woman” they loudly cry,...

HOW TO BE A MAN.

Step 1 and only step:  find a person you can trust and be vulnerable with.

BIOLOGICAL AND FINANCIAL CLOCK

Image
You would agree with me that most times, men and women do not think alike. While men think and handle situations most times thinking with their brains, women on the other hand often handle situations using their motions. Really, think about whatever situation it could be… A woman would think with her heart and mind you, you really cannot blame them because these two genders have a clock, each ticking against the other, or maybe for the other. This different clocks is what makes them see life from two very different perspectives.  While a woman is on a biological clock, a man is on a financial clock.  The biological clock is a timer set for every woman. This timer counts down each day, reminding her that the older she gets, the more her body depreciates and this explains why most times, women appear to be the victim in relationships. They honestly don’t want to run out of time so they try as much as possible (and even impossible) to set things right with the people around them....
