STILL BECOMING

To the one person that made my 19th year a memorable one, David Adedolapo Obadiah, I love you so much. If I took nothing out of my 19th year, at least I know not to “settle” anymore, and self discovery is not an action or a process. It is a constant cycle/struggle/growth that takes place at certain intervals in life; and this brings me to dropping this bombshell¡ Until January 17th 2027, my blog would be shut down. I wrote for free for over 3 years and now, I have thought to rebrand ’Style De Vie blog’, maybe with a different name, maybe with a different logo, but definitely an entirely different website!😊 But in the meantime, while cooking, I will be closing contracts and landing clients in the writing field. I am still a writer, a full time freelance content writer who is also into social media management (still cooking up more skills for my readers😽).  So, please, if you are looking for any type of writer, or a social media manager, I’m very much available and would lov...

When Peace Becomes A Privilege

Image
I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that we still have the whole of year 2026 and part of 2027 to continue living this way.  While prepping  this piece, I remembered a  song  that was on the lips of almost every Nigerian barely six months into this present government  (video attached beneath). I couldn't help but ask myself, were we really complaining about Mr. B AT  then, if only the future us had seen today, if only our 2023 selves  got a  peep into today to see that the order of the day has become kidnapping and terrorism and it is spreading like a virus at this point. These terrorists are not the regular terrorists, they are the content creator type of terrorists who update the country on their trips and yet we have the military doing nothing but standing by the same dangerous roadsides to collect common 200 Naira from struggling Nigerians who are trying to earn a living from transportation … Stay with me. Can we even talk about th is ...

Hey Dad,

I think I will ask God "why" for the rest of my life. And never will I come to understand it Even if God himself came in front of me to tell me the reason, I don't think I will accept it Some loves are too hard to bear And with great loves come great pain, And with great loss, Comes the greatest pain of all If love could have saved you...  You would've lived for ever I love you and will always miss you. And in my next life and after, I would always want you to be my dad Courtesy: Ify your girl🎀

Beyond the surface

Only if Apostle Femi Lazarus had used another case study, he would have passed his message on peace without misconceptions and misunderstandings from viewers and listeners. Terming the mood swings that come with periods as being demonic is something really demonic itself. Let me make this clearer… (this is a going to be a personal post and I’d love to see personal comments in the comment section as well). Till I turned 19, I never fully understood what period cramps meant or what they really felt like; and growing up with mostly females around me, I used to be the ONLY joyous person when I was on my period… everyone else would always wriggle in pain, in tears and most times could not even function, including my younger sister who has no access to the internet or social media, so are we to call her demonic for being overstimulated due to the pain that comes with period??? Personally, I feel one should not have a say pertaining anything at all if you do not have the experience. Onc...

FARMER’S BRIDE

Image
I was so engrossed in my own world that I cared less about life. I didn’t realize this till I threw a very silly question at my roommate, “Is child marriage really practiced in Nigeria?” Not until after I threw that question did it dawn on me that I had withdrawn almost totally from the society.  There was also a movie released some time ago which narrated child marriage and I love that it didn’t only portray the traditional part of it but also the psychological effect this could have on the child, THE FARMER’S BRIDE.  Of recent too, there were videos of old cargos surfacing online, crying in so much anguish over the ban of child marriage and I couldn’t help but say in my defense that the society, put together, could legit make one go psycho. I don’t know… but in my opinion,  child marriage is not only pedophilia, but also rape (I do not stand to be corrected). I don’t care how anyone is going to paint this but even if one is to say these girls consent to sex with these o...

The Shift

Do you remember a post I made sometime ago about financial and biological clock? I stayed clearly in that piece how and why each gender acts the way they do; while the males are more focused on their financial clock, the females on the other hand, are more focused on their biological clock. But come to think of it, it appears now, that women are no longer really interested on whether or not they’re on time on their biological clock. Everyone is now more focused on their financial clock and we all want to be “there” But who’s to be blamed for this change?  Asides the fact that the world is now wired in a certain way, the following are reasons or factors rather, that has prompted women’s motif and focus to change from the biological to financial clock:  l  Gender stereotypes: Right from time, the female gender has always been seen as that which is restricted and “obliged” to care, groom, the kitchen and many other chores which should not be gender based but things an...

Religious Bondage

Image
I’ve always suspected churches and mosques to be one of the problems affecting people who are all about “church, church, church” or “mosque, mosque, mosque”… it was something I wasn’t so sure of till I bumped into a video online. This video contained various people, both young and old, who were now living in regrets because of what their pastors and imams had told them to do… I kept on concluding I had heard the worst of them all till the next person spoke and I was in so much awe. It made me wonder: “is this the same religion the foreigners had introduced to us??” PS: I don’t usually do this (I mean, speaking against people’s belief, culture e.t.c.) but then I realized that we have a lot of young and ignorant people and as a matter of fact, they’re growing in numbers. Religious bondage is the oppressive, rigid or restrictive practices WITHIN religious institutions that refuse humans their autonomy and freedom. In my last article, I brushed past a belief that refuses blood transfusion, e...

UNSEEN LABOR

These days, society pays more attention to gender war, failed marriages, body goals, gym goals e.t.c. and fail to look into one of the most delicate and important part of humanity. That one sa rice that has to be made for the sake of humanity. If we keep on blinding ourselves with the hatred of the other gender, comparing one “perfect” marriage to the other, someone else’s looks to the other, at what point do we start start paying attention to the fragility of two lives in the labor room? When do we begin to appreciate the love, submission and acceptance it takes to bring another life to the world? The bravery it takes to go in and come out of a labor room leaves me wondering how excellent a woman’s body actually works. I saw a post that explained the stages of how a woman’s body goes back t shape after childbirth and most times, the body does not even go back to its exact shape without a lot of work in the gym. Coincidentally, I also bumped into a post that educated women on how to ha...
